#StayOut
A playful experiment between isolation and communication.
#StayOut is a performative installation that mirrors and questions our habits as individuals in public. In a hypothetical society, people have to live inside a bubble. Their behaviour swings between the repetition of their obsessions and the desire to break the rhythm of routine.
Houses and air are contaminated, people are urged to relocate their lives outside in temporary, transparent architectures: #StayOut. Based on this hypothetical crisis, the familiar request #StayHome is turned on its head. Staged in front of Haus der Statistik in central Berlin, #StayOut is a fictional infrastructure for living on the street consisting of seven pneumatic structures inhabited by seven performers. The combination of architecture and performance creates scenic spaces in which stereotypical behaviours are condensed into eccentric, obsessive movements. The artists reflect current socio-political tendencies and create dystopian to optimistic visions of our future.
#StayOut raises areas of tension, which on the one hand only arose with the corona crisis, on the other hand, were brought to the surface and catalysed by it. The keywords here are state and social control versus self-determination and freedom, rebalancing of private and public life, environmental change, the emergence of social role structures, the importance of physical proximity and distance, and the tension between isolation and communication and the individual and society. Plastique Fantastique tackles these topics playfully, sometimes parodically, and invites passers-by and visitors to experience the scenario, empathise and interact with the situation.

eine szenische Installation von Plastique Fantastique

Häuser und Luft sind kontaminiert, die Menschen angehalten, ihr Leben nach draußen in temporäre, transparente Architekturen zu verlagern: Hashtag #StayOut. Ausgehend von dieser hypothetischen Krise verkehrt sich in der neuesten Installation des Berliner Künstlerduos Plastique Fantastique die uns nunmehr vertraute Aufforderung #StayHome in ihr Gegenteil. Vom 6. - 8. August erprobt das Duo auf dem Vorplatz vom Haus der Statistik in Berlin eine neue, fiktionale Infrastruktur des Wohnens und Lebens, bestehend aus sieben pneumatischen Strukturen, die von einer Gruppe Tänzer*innen bespielt werden. In der Verbindung aus Architektur und Performance entstehen szenische Räume, in denen stereotype Verhaltensweisen kondensiert und zu exzentrisch-obsessiven Bewegungsmaterial verdichtet werden. Die Künstler*innen reflektieren dabei aktuelle gesellschaftspolitische Tendenzen und entwerfen dystopisch bis optimistisch Visionen unserer Zukunft.
#StayOut greift gegenwärtige Spannungsfelder auf, die einerseits erst mit der Coronakrise aufgetreten sind, andererseits durch diese an die Oberfläche gespült und katalysiert wurden. Stichwortartig zu nennen wären staatliche und soziale Kontrolle vs. Selbstbestimmung und Freiheit, Neugewichtung von privatem und öffentlichem Leben, Umweltwandel, die Sichtbarwerdung sozialer Rollenstrukturen, die Bedeutung von körperlicher Nähe und Distanz, das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Isolation und Kommunikation, zwischen Individuum und Gesellschaft. Plastique Fantastique begegnet diesen Themen spielerisch, teils parodistisch, und lädt Passierende und Besucher*innen dazu ein, das Szenario zu erleben, sich hineinzudenken und zu interagieren.
